Completed in 2023, this four-bedroom private house sits within the curtilage of a Listed farmhouse in the Green Belt, on the edge of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty near Dorking. 

Existing barns were reconfigured and connected by new-build link elements forming a modern cloister around a central planted courtyard.

Ground-floor living spaces open directly onto this courtyard,

strengthening the relationship between interior and landscape.

 

The design distinguishes old and new through black-stained larch cladding, laid horizontally on historic volumes and vertically on contemporary additions. Internally, a simple material palette, carefully positioned rooflights and windows, and oak-lined reveals maximise natural light and frame views of the surrounding countryside.
