Completed in 2022, this four-bedroom private house sits within the curtilage of a former garden nursery, at the foot of Box Hill, within the Metropolitan Greenbelt and the Surrey Hills National Landscape (formerly Surrey Hills AONB).

Sited discreetly within the treeline, the proposed charred timber barn is positioned to minimise visual impact while taking advantage of long-distance views towards Box Hill. Raised on a plinth of locally sourced flint, the building is

anchored within the landscape, referencing traditional Surrey agricultural forms while elevating the structure.

The principal entertaining spaces are located at first-floor level to maximise views, daylight and connection to the countryside, with private and ancillary accommodation below. A timber oak frame provides the primary structure, allowing open, flexible layouts and double-height spaces, with exposed elements reinforcing the barn-like character and robust rural expression.
